Program Description

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, is looking for talented leaders to significantly strengthen its global leadership depth and play an integral role in the current and future success of the organization. The Global Technology Co-op/Intern Program provides students with practical work experience in one of many diverse areas of Global Technology . The program allows the organization to build a pipeline of candidates for future permanent openings, and the students gain a better understanding of the various job opportunities available throughout Goodyear.

Ideally, many of the Global Technology co-ops and interns become permanent Goodyear associates after graduation.

In addition to challenging, engaging and interesting work assignments, students have the opportunity to meet and interact with students from other universities at work and outside of work. Tours of Goodyear facilities are arranged to help students learn more about the business. Goodyear leaders make presentations to help students begin to think about significant business issues and career options. Students even have the opportunity to speak with the Goodyear Senior Leadership Team.

Function Overview and Project Task/Responsibilities

The data science intern will be part of the global Data Science & Analytics group at Goodyear. Since its inception, the Data Science portfolio of projects continues to grow and includes areas of tire technology, innovation, business, operations, and tire manufacturing. The associates in the Data Science group come from a broad range of backgrounds (Mathematics, Statistics, Neuroscience, Astrophysics, Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, and of course Data Science) and work across a number of data competencies (data science, data engineering, data visualization, app development) to collaborate on innovative tools and methods for simulating, modeling and analyzing complex processes throughout our company. If you are interested in helping to leverage data to launch new data-driven business opportunities across the company, then you will enjoy the challenge of working in this team.

As a data science intern, you will have the opportunity to be a part of project teams developing the next generation of data science applications such as tire performance prediction models, fleet management systems and plant scheduling simulations. During your internship, you will have an opportunity to:

• Collaborate with experts from data science as well as our partners from across the company

• Develop an understanding of tire design, manufacturing and business processes

• Work with diverse sets of business, manufacturing and operations data

• Learn about and apply new data science technologies to support data-driven application development

• Independently perform Data Science tasks (including data exploration, cleaning, factor generation/selection, data visualization and machine learning) to support large-scale Data Science initiatives

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree or PhD in one of the following areas: Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics or any other relevant field

• Minimum 3.0 overall GPA required

• Must have completed one year of classes prior to internship

• Must have experience coding with R, Python or SQL

• Prior data science related co-op/internship experience preferred

• Demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills
