The mission of the Corporate Risk team is to make risk actionable and help FirstEnergy achieve our strategic objectives. We envision a comprehensive and proactive Risk program that enables risk-informed decisions and the pursuit of opportunities. Risk management is composed of two teams: Enterprise Risk Management and Insurance Strategy & Operations. Members of the Insurance Strategy & Operations team will have the exciting opportunity to work across all areas of the business and contribute to the success of FE’s key strategic priorities.

Insurance Risk is responsible for coordinating the purchase of insurance necessary to mitigate insurable risks, coordinating the insurance management activities across all business units (including Surety Bonding, Contractual Risk Transfer, Claims, and Owner Controlled Insurance Programs), coordinating loss prevention inspections and services across all business units, and providing reports to internal stakeholders that detail the kinds of insurance products currently in use, their cost, and the risk intended to be mitigated by the policy.

The position is within the Risk group and reports to the Director, Insurance Strategy & Operations. It is located within our five-state service territory (Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, or New Jersey). This position is designated as Remote. It may require in-person team meetings in the Akron area, on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities include:

  • Display excellent attention to detail and the ability to support all insurance functions and develop presentations and talking points to all management levels.

  • Understand and/or learn continuous improvement principles, project and change management skills, and contribute ideas to improve Insurance processes and technology solutions

  • Have and/or be motivated to learn project management, change management, and continuous improvement skills and apply them to insurance processes

  • Be able to work across a variety of projects and work with leaders to consistently prioritize their work in a fast-paced environment

  • Supporting the Insurance Strategy & Operations Risk group in all aspects of Corporate Insurance programs.

  • Gathering and evaluating data and information in support of insurance coverage renewals.

  • Reviewing insurance policies for accuracy and verification of coverage.

  • Reviewing contract terms and conditions to ensure proper Insurance coverage and risk transfer with counter parties.

  • Reviewing certificates of Insurance to ensure compliance with contract terms.

  • Supporting departmental budget and forecasting activities.

  • Administrating current and identify opportunities for Owner Controlled Insurance Programs.

  • Coordinate insurance recovery activities for claims in excess of Self-Insured Retentions.

  • Assist with Loss Control program administration.

  • Assist with administration of Surety Bond program.

  • Assist with the insurance approvals in Coupa.

  • Assist with in the organizing and develop of Insurance presentation materials

  • Advanced degree, CPCU, ARM, AIC and other insurance professional designations or equivalent preferred.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Engineering or related discipline required

  • Minimum 2 years professional work experience required

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Strong financial acumen

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate results and implications

  • Demonstrate the ability to make decisions based on calculated risk and long-term strategy

  • Motivated, self-starter who can exercise independent judgment on projects and assignment

  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
