Savannah River Mission Completion Fire Protection Lead in Aiken, South Carolina
Overview
Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) is seeking a Fire Protection Lead to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site.
This Fire Protection Lead position supports the company’s Fire Inspection Program: a comprehensive Life Safety, Fire Prevention and Fire Hazard Inspection Program. Tests, diagnoses issues, conducts repairs and maintenance, and reports on a variety of fire control systems including fire detectors, fire barriers/doors, fire alarms, fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and other fire control components.
Responsibilities
Leads the activities of assigned fire technicians ensuring activities are performed safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
Demonstrates advanced understanding and application of site policies, procedures, and codes to service. Troubleshoots, conduct repairs and maintenance on various systems, apparatus, and equipment including wet, dry, deluge, fire pumps, and electrical components. Disassembles, inspects, and repairs equipment requiring specialized knowledge, or addressing situations that are exceptionally hazardous.
Applies NFPA codes and standards to mitigate fire and safety risks. Stays current on code requirements and industry changes.
Conducts visual and manual inspections and system tests including control valve functions to verify alarm and sprinkler systems are operating properly. Trains less experienced personnel in best methods to perform these functions.
Tests, diagnoses complex problems, troubleshoots, and services fire detectors, fire alarms, fire doors and panels, and other fire control containment equipment. Provides recommendation for improvements as needed.
Liaises with internal and external representatives to test fire pumps and identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues. Educates others on preventative care and maintenance to avoid malfunctions.
Provides on-the-job training, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced technicians. Ensures technicians attain required certifications. Assists with addressing work delays and scheduling work.
Interprets blueprints, diagrams, and operational materials to resolve issues.
Creates and/or generates standard and ad hoc reports and utilizes corrective action systems and processes to report issues and findings. May be responsible for STAR item resolution.
Operates motorized vehicles and associated equipment within policy and licensing limits.
Performs administrative functions as needed.
Meets and performs the physical requirements of the job duties, which may include lifting/handling up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, twisting, exposure to extreme temperatures, wearing protective clothing/equipment (including respiratory) and meeting radiological control requirements.
Acquires and maintains NICET level 3 certifications: Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems, and Special Hazards Systems.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
BS in Fire Science, Fire Protection or Engineering and experience related to the jobs function; or
High School Diploma or GED and a combination of secondary education and/or experience directly related to the jobs function.
Additional Information:
To remain in the position, the Lead must be able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of fire protection system orders and policies and retain training qualifications as required by management.
Preferred Qualifications
NICET II or III certification
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related
Advanced knowledge of NFPA codes standards
Previous high hazard experience
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
Strong computer aptitude
Ability to provide on-the-job training to others
