Job Summary
The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) greets patients, obtains, and verifies patient information/identification and updates patient records accordingly.
The HUC makes future patient appointments, runs a necessary schedule, checks in patients for the day’s appointments and oversees the daily schedule and coordination of treatment start dates, intakes/admissions, and performs data entry and charges.
Collects, verifies, and audits for charge correctness and completeness prior to being processed for billing, insurance filing, and revenue reporting.
Monitors daily flow of charge tickets or electronic charges to guarantee accuracy and timeliness of output.
Takes telephone calls regarding billing issues and provides information as requested. Obtains proof of patient identification and insurance coverage.
The HUC serves as a liaison for nurses, counselors, techs, and patients in interdepartmental communications.
Must be committed to the disease concept and the 12-step process.
This position requires the ability to maintain strict confidentiality pursuant to HIPAA and 42 CFR, Part 2 guidelines and agency policies.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
Experience in health-related occupation desirable. Advanced secretarial/clerical and accounting experience is preferred.
1-2 years of experience and/or training is preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
BLS –Basic Life Support is required.
CPI –Crisis Prevention Intervention is required.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday; 48 hours every 2 weeks
8:00 am – 5:00 pm
No weekends or holidays
Pay
The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
$17.50 - $23.00 per hour
