CITY OF ABERDEEN
FULL TIME CLERK/TREASURER: The City of Aberdeen is looking for qualified applicants for the position of Clerk/Treasurer.
A general guideline of duties, qualifications, and employment description is set forth below.

Position Summary
The principal function of an employee in this position is to perform administrative support to the City Clerk/Treasurer, including but not limited to providing customer service to elected officials, city staff and the public; attending and recording City Council sessions; preparing the agenda and information packets for Council meetings; supervising City elections; provide accounting information to the Mayor and City Council, reconciling bank accounts, collection of utility revenue for the City and other revenues received; accounting, assist with the annual audit and the administration of the city budget. The position is supervised by the City Clerk/Treasurer, although some latitude is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The principal duties of this position are performed in a general office environment.
Examples of Work (Illustrative Only)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities CITY CLERK
Attends City Council meetings, takes and prepares minutes;
Prepares and distributes City Council agenda and information packets;
Supervises City elections;
Maintains and updates City ordinances and municipal code;
Maintains City records, correspondence files, resolutions, and related documents;
Prepares and administers annual budget;
Coordinate and handle personnel/HR issues with the mayor;
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices;
Performs other related duties as required.
TREASURER
Custodian of all monies, bonds and securities of the City
Prepares and files all reports required of the Treasurer by State and City codes
Oversees the receipt of all public funds and monies payable to the City.
Provides a receipt to every person paying monies to the City Treasurer
Oversees the balancing, reconciling, and correction of any errors in all accounts held by the City
Provides a monthly accounting to City Council of all bank balances, cash balances and other information deemed necessary by City council
Performs related duties as necessary
Oversees all utility billings, accounting, receipts and related activities.
Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ASSISTANT CLERK/TREASURER
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of municipal administration and pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations;
Principles and procedures of record keeping;
Municipal election codes, statutes, ordinances, and principles and procedures;
Accounting, billing, bookkeeping, and filing procedures and techniques;
Operation of a personal computer and various software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and job-related functions;
Writing and presentation skills;
Supervisory and/or management skills;
Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines;
Be professional and respectful in personal interactions;
Maintain confidentiality and uphold city statutes.
Acceptable Experience and Training
High school diploma or GED equivalency required with a degr e in a related field preferred; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
