The City Ordinance Officer is responsible for enforcing municipal codes, ordinances, and regulations within the city to ensure public safety, environmental health, and community well-being. This role involves inspecting properties, issuing citations for non-compliance, and educating residents and business owners on local ordinances. The City Ordinance Officer works closely with other city departments, law enforcement, and residents to ensure the citys regulations are adhered to and that the community remains safe and orderly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce City Ordinances:Inspect residential, commercial, and public properties to ensure compliance with local codes and ordinances, including zoning, building codes, health, safety, and environmental regulations.

  • Issue Citations:Issue warnings, citations, and notices of violation for non-compliance with city ordinances. Follow up on violations to ensure corrective actions are taken.

  • Investigate Complaints:Respond to complaints from residents and business owners regarding potential violations. Conduct investigations and resolve issues as appropriate.

  • Education and Outreach:Educate residents and businesses about city ordinances and regulations. Provide guidance on how to comply with applicable laws.

  • Maintain Records:Keep accurate records of inspections, citations, warnings, and investigations. Maintain a log of correspondence and actions taken related to violations.

  • Collaborate with City Departments:Work with other city departments, such as public works, planning and zoning, and law enforcement, to address violations and ensure coordinated enforcement of city ordinances.

  • Court Testimony:As needed, provide testimony in court or hearings related to violations or non-compliance cases.

  • Report Preparation:Prepare reports and presentations on enforcement activities, trends, and areas of concern for management and other stakeholders.

  • Monitor Properties:Conduct follow-up inspections on properties previously issued citations or notices of violation to ensure compliance and resolve any ongoing issues.

  • Provide Customer Service:Respond to public inquiries regarding city ordinances and the enforcement process. Assist residents and businesses with understanding code requirements.

    Work Environment:\ This position involves both office and fieldwork. Fieldwork includes inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties, sometimes in adverse weather conditions or challenging environments.

    Physical Requirements:\ The job may require occasional lifting, walking, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors. Applicants should be able to navigate properties and inspect structures, including accessing areas such as rooftops or basements.
