AltaGas - Mechanic Technician

Are you a seasoned facility maintenance expert with a knack for developing and leading teams? The AltaGas Harmattan facility is seeking a dynamic Mechanic who excels in troubleshooting complex problems and implementing innovative solutions. As a key player on our team, you'll have the autonomy to make impactful changes while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead construction projects, turnaround planning, commissioning, start-ups, small-scale projects, and assignments.

  • Support, practice, and develop Harmattan Gas Processing LP's operational policies, standards, procedures, and practices.

  • Lead in coaching, competency testing, mentoring, and training junior employees, i.e. apprentices.

  • Responsible for planning and scheduling of the department.

  • Provide input and be accountable for budget cycles.

  • Provide backup for senior and supervisory personnel when needed, temporarily covering vacations, project assignments, etc.

  • Perform unscheduled and non-routine procedures without direction from senior employees.

  • Coordinate Emergency Response Plan (ERP) situations if required.

  • Embrace and initiate positive change and continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrate excellent leadership qualities and manage conflicting ideas and perspectives.

Site Specific Duties/Requirements:

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in natural gas engines (Waukesha and Caterpillar), reciprocating compressors (Ariel and Dresser-Rand), and centrifugal compressors (Elliot, Solar EMD, and York).

  • Engine tuning, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.

  • Compressor inspections and corrective maintenance.

  • Pump overhauls and rebuilds, mechanical seal change-outs, alignments, pump curves, and efficiencies.

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in maintenance and repairs of steam turbines (Westinghouse, Dresser-Rand, and Terry).

  • Overhauls and inspections.

  • Troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical governor systems.

What You Bring:

  • Plant Maintenance Journeyman, with 10+ years of experience.

  • Thorough knowledge and experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing equipment and systems.

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in maintenance and repairs of various pump makes and models.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, striving for win/win outcomes in relationships.

  • HS&E Training and Awareness and H2S Alive and Standard First Aid are required.

  • Superior communication and professional business skills (i.e. the ability to prepare departmental budgets, create schedules, etc.).

  • Continued upgrading and maintaining of HS&E Training and regulatory competencies is required.

  • Strong leadership and superior troubleshooting skills. Excellent team player.

  • Experience with asset management software Maximo is preferred.

Information for Applicants:

  • Expected workload: 60% maintenance activities on the tools and systems above, and 40% planning, scheduling, and maintenance administrative tasks.

  • The successful candidate must live or be willing to relocate within 1 hour of the Harmattan Gas Processing facility in case of emergencies.
