Summary:

The Tool and Laser Install Technician is responsible for operating laser tracker equipment and the completing day to day tool building project that meet quality standards and customers specifications .

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspects, tests, and verifies accuracy of assembled article for conformance to standards, using measuring or testing equipment, or by visual examination.

  • Determines methods and sequences of fabrication and assembly, performs final setup and assembly of components, details, and accessories; follows tools through to completion and sell-off.

  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of the principles and use of applicable optical equipment and computer aided measuring equipment such as laser trackers.

  • Fabricate, and prove optical and mechanical accessories to adapt and modify optical instruments and similar equipment used in building and checking major tooling.

  • Constructs all types of major jigs, fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges and related tooling.

  • In-process inspection and final inspection of parts, sub-assemblies during manufacturing per customer requirements.

  • Measures and marks reference lines and points on parts according to specifications, using templates, rules, or marking devices.

  • Prepares, breakdown of jigs and fixtures, tool masters or master tooling gauges into components.

  • Performs assignments that range from the use of ordinary operations to performing work involving accurate relationships and extremely close tolerances.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education and Work Experience:

  • Associates degree or technical accreditation.

  • Must have a minimum of three-years of experience working with laser trackers, model-based metrology, analyzing data, and report generation.

  • Minimum of seven-years experience with laser trackers, model-based metrology, analyzing data, and report generation in lieu of education.

    Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements:

  • This position may require a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    List of needed knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the job .

  • Recent experience of operating Faro, API, Leica laser trackers using preferably Verisurf or Spatial Analyser software is required.

  • Use in-depth familiarity of GD&T; to interpret blueprints at all assembly levels.

  • Discern how best to establish a reference system for the current task then apply it and install it both on and off the part.

  • Collect geometric data via laser tracker through model-based software such as Verisurf.

  • Provide analysis of collected data and evaluate it to provide direction for remaining operations.

  • Integrate process monitoring with the assembly process in locating details.

  • Understand and apply the fabrication process and environmental effects on large structures such as, temperature swings, expansion, contraction and dissimilar material types.

  • Reads and understands blueprints, schematics, and/or measuring devices.

  • Behaves consistently and predictably; is reliable, responsible and dependable in fulfilling obligations and diligently follows through on commitments and consistently meets deadlines .

  • Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task through concern for all the areas involved.

  • Clear and effective communication skills in both written and spoken forms.

  • Understands how to use the computers, including such tasks as turning the computer on and off, locating and opening files, navigate to websites, perform searches, and download files.

  • Knowledge of computer applications including email, databases, word-processing program and spreadsheets (such as Microsoft Office).

  • Respond and follow up to a customer’s inquiry or problem in a timely and effective manner.

  • Identifies problems and review relevant information to develop options, then implement the solutions.

  • Comfortable communicating and working with different levels of management, team members and customers.

    Work Conditions:

    Environment Type:

  • Indoors. Production and office environment. Temperature controlled, unless products and/or equipment is located outdoors.

    Exposure Types:

  • Cuts and/or burns

  • Dirt, dust, grease and/or oil

  • Noisy environment

  • Intense bright light

  • Metal shavings

    Work Hours :

  • Standard work schedule, overtime may be necessary for meeting deadlines, required travel, and emergent conditions.

    Travel Requirements:

  • Remote - perform job responsibilities from customer work sites.

  • Travel may require two or three-week intervals between work site and employee domicile.

  • International travel may be required; employee would be expected to meet international requirements for entry.

    Physical Demands:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
