Summary:

The electrical engineer supports custom AIT designed solutions for large scale automated aerospace assembly systems for both domestic and international customers. The engineer actively participates throughout the entire project lifecycle through design, procurement, fabrication, assembly, integration, commissioning, and production support. The primary focus is on control system design and development for microprocessor-based servo motion control, heating applications, analog and digital sensors, network communication, and graphical user interfaces.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design electrical control systems and utilities for aerospace automation equipment, scaffolding, and tools following electrical standards, best practice, and the AIT electrical design process.

  • Create and revise 2D electrical panel layouts and drawings in accordance with internal and customer requirements.

  • Sizes and selects system components based on design requirements that meet project schedule and budget.

  • Design tool network topologies with software engineering.

  • Performs cabling routing analysis with mechanical engineering.

  • Self-check and review all designs and drawings prior to final release.

  • Provide engineering support for manufacturing and lab testing of electrical systems.

  • Aid in analyzing product failures and electrical configuration and design corrections.

  • Follows electrical design procedures, fills out required forms and closes all actions associated with internal and customer design processes.

  • Is a member on cross-functional teams with mechanical/electrical design, project management, and manufacturing.

  • Clearly documents and communicates problems encountered, troubleshooting steps taken, corrective actions, root cause, and next steps.

  • Manages requirements and breaks requirements into discrete tasks that can be tested and validated.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of two years experience designing electrical control systems in AutoCAD electrical or EPLAN.

    Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a Secret security clearance.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    List of needed knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the job .

  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills.

  • Read and understand drawings and schematics (ie: electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics).

  • Understands engineering of automation, controls, electronics, and electrical equipment/systems.

  • Use computer-assisted design (AutoCAD Electrical) and other design and analysis software. Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software.

  • Self-starter, ability to work independently, act and deliver results, exercising high level judgment in the absence of explicit direction.

  • Clear and effective communication skills in both written and spoken forms.

  • Learn and apply new concepts quickly and effectively.

  • Work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, and contractors.

  • Work effectively with different levels of management, team members and customers.

  • Possesses required experience, skills, and attributes for assigned level in Professional Development, AutoCAD Electrical, and Product Knowledge on the Engineering Skills Matrix.

    Environment Type:

  • Indoor. Production and office environment. Temperature controlled.

    Exposure Types:

  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.

    Work Hours :

  • Standard work schedule, overtime may be necessary for meeting deadlines, required travel, and emergent conditions.

    Travel Requirements:

  • This position can involve travel up to 20% of the time.

    Physical Demands:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.

  • Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
