Actalent Job Captain in Chicago, Illinois

Seeking Technical Designer/Job Captain to assist/manage technical production for Chicago design firm.

This is a technical role, not design focused

Description:

  • The Job Captain will report to Design Director or Design Manager in the management of multiple projects with varying schedules

  • Main focus within projects lives within the schematic design and construction documentation phases

  • Responsible for both drafting and/or coordination with external consultant responsible for set development

  • Responsible for first review of all design documentation including but not limited to: custom furniture drawings, customer fixture pages, specification scheduled, plans, elevations, architectural details

  • Understand appropriate value engineering alternatives for materiality, decorative lighting, and FF&E

  • Resolve technical/design issues and provide guidance to team

  • Coordinate with client, consultants, vendors and design team to develop drawings, details, field notes and produce design development documents

  • Assist Design Manager and/or Construction Administrator with site visits and in-field design review

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have an accredited degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or Interior Design

  • 5+ years of experience in a technical role focused within interiors – technical designer, interior architect

  • Technical Designer II: 4-5 years of technical interior experience; strong in this and can work independent

  • Job Captain: 5-10 years of technical experience; ability to manage projects independently; has managed 1-2 people

  • This does NOT include internship experience or experience outside of US standards

  • Ability and experience managing projects and project teams

  • Hospitality projects needed, however need to have some custom experience (restaurants or hotels ideally)

  • Must provide millwork drawings + portfolio

  • Need to have some custom experience (restaurants or hotels ideally)

  • Ability and experience communicating with architects, consultants, and general contractors

  • Must be proficient AutoCAD

  • Bluebeam and SketchUp are a plus

  • Must be immediately local- this is an in office/hybrid position

  • Must have valid work authorization- no education extensions
