Ankura Assistant General Counsel in Chicago, Illinois

This position supports the Legal Team within Ankura Business Services, our internal Firm-services function. Due to our exceptional growth and success, Ankura is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join our team. Reporting to the Global Head of Litigation, the Assistant General Counsel will support the Legal Team on Firm-wide initiatives, including corporate, employment and litigation-related matters. The Assistant General Counsel will work with functions across the Firm to ensure compliance with the law and internal policies and must be experienced in employment matters and a motivated, collaborative team member with a strong desire to partner with different constituencies to ensure excellence and consistency in legal advice and counsel across the Firm.

Responsibilities:

• Provide advice regarding a variety of issues and disputes, including employment law

• Provide advice and counsel in other areas of the law, including general corporate and litigation matters

• Provide strong transactional legal advice

• Negotiate and draft a wide range of agreements, including engagement letters, vendor contracts, and confidentiality agreements

• Engage in issue spotting, risk assessment, and problem-solving

Qualifications:

• J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school or equivalent foreign degree with significant U.S. legal experience

• Admitted to a U.S. Bar with a preference for a licensed or eligible attorney to practice or immediately able to apply to become registered in-house counsel

• Minimum 3+ years’ experience in an in-house position with experience in multiple areas, including employment law

• Ability to assess and manage risk

• Comfortable in highly collaborative environment

• Ability to easily network and build relationship with colleagues and external clients

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, Colorado, or New York, Ankura is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the said markets and considers a broad range of factors including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. The range does not include additional benefits outside of salary. At Ankura, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each role. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range is between $150,000 to $225,000; this range is not a promise of a particular wage.
